Welcome to The George & Dragon, Shipley

Nestled in the heart of the Sussex countryside, The George & Dragon is a charming 16th-century pub full of character, history, and old-world warmth. Set in the peaceful hamlet of Dragons Green, our pub has long been a favourite spot for walkers, families, cyclists, locals, and visitors looking for great food, good company, and a proper country pub experience.

Over the centuries, the pub has seen many changes, but its heart has always remained the same: a relaxed, welcoming place where people come together to enjoy good food, good drinks, and great memories.

Our menu is crafted by Chef Dominique Toussaint, a culinary expert with over 20 years’ experience in Michelin-starred restaurants and fine dining across the UK. Whether you’re popping in for a quiet pint, a hearty Sunday roast, or a special evening out, our warm wooden interiors and charming pub garden provide the perfect setting.

Our Story

The pub is proudly run by Tim Mordant and Sophie Burrell, who took ownership with a clear vision: to bring this beautiful old building back to life and restore it as a true community pub. They reopened the doors not just as owners, but as custodians of a piece of local history. Every beam restored, every fire relit, every corner refreshed was done with love, purpose, and a desire to create a pub that feels like home.

A Country Pub with Community at Its Heart

From charity events and live music nights, to quiz evenings, race nights, weddings, wakes, celebrations, and family gatherings, the pub has grown into a lively hub for the local community.
